  3:36   (5-Nov-1986)   119 BPM   {remix: Shep Pettibone}
Compared with UK 7-inch: Intro removes bass synth, and the snare fill is half-length; the bridge before final chorus is different, with 4 bars each of bass guitar, synth motif, and synth swell, instead of mostly percussive 12.5 bar bridge on UK version. (Sometimes called Canadian 7-inch version, though it is only on some CA copies, while others have the UK 7-inch version.)

I presume this was a potential 7-inch version (with corresponding 12-inch version eventually released on Brotherhood Definitive Edition), which was ultimately unused in favor of the Shep Pettibone single versions.

Presumed (by me) to be a version left unused in favor of Shep Pettibone's 12-inch remix, and eventually released on Brotherhood Definitive Edition; corresponds to the shorter (possibly intended as 7-inch) version which initially appeared on the Married to the Mob soundtrack.

  3:23   (5-Nov-1986)   119 BPM   {remix: Shep Pettibone}
Similar to US 7-inch version, but with fade out, and removal of last four 4 bars of bridge (synth swell) before final chorus. (Sometimes called "Threesome version" due it its eventual inclusion on that soundtrack, in 1994.)

CD

  3:51   (23-May-1989)   119 BPM   {remix: Shep Pettibone}
Intro is the 12-inch, up until where the hi-hats would start; then the same as the UK 7-inch starting from the snare fill. Also, 16.5 beats during the instrumental bridge, from 2:40 to 2:49, are replaced by a short acted scene with no music. (The official version on YouTube, unlike previously released versions, awkwardly replaces the first 4 bars (16 beats) of kick drum with the first bar of the synth bass intro from the 7-inch repeated twice, followed by the remaining 2 synth bass bars.)

Allegedly titled "I Don't Care" in the US due to that being band manager Rob Gretton's response when asked by someone at Qwest/Warner what the track should be titled for its US release. (Which makes perfect sense, really.)

Pre-1995 releases have (presumably accidental) subtle change in mix at around 2:26; more details here. Some 1995 and later releases mistakenly omit first seven beats, which can also be misheard as an extra first beat. (Also: "Blue Monday-95" is the title of several singles, and a limited edition bonus album included with "(the rest of)", featuring seven new dance remixes, though there is no one version of the song with that title, unlike True Faith-94, BLT-94, etc.)

Compared with usual 7-inch version: same structure, but up until the vocals start it has the '88 version's "funky" (rather than "steady") synth bass part; once the vocals start, both versions are the same until the end of the song. I'm presuming this was an unused 7-inch candidate, and that its inclusion on the CDV, where it is labeled as though it is the usual 7-inch version, might or might not have been accidental.

  7:34   (22-Nov-2024)   131 BPM   {remix: Michael Johnson}
Totally separate, unreleased Blue Monday 1988 version than the usual Quincy Jones/John Potoker remix. This New Order/Michael Johnson version (with new vocals) apparently went unused until eventually being released on Brotherhood Definitive Edition. Beach Buggy is the "dub version" of this version, as opposed to the separate "Blue Monday 1988 (Dub)" made by Jones/Potoker. The new vocal track from this unreleased version was later used for the various "Blue Monday-95" remixes.

Similar, but not identical, to the original (and more common) 6:57 version. It has the same structure, except the snare fill at 1:50 is one bar instead of four, and the synth + bass guitar section at 3:32 is 8 bars instead of 16. Has different appearances of keyboards, snare, and echoes from start through 1:50; but, after that, it's identical to the original, apart from the excised bits I mentioned. Sometimes referred to as "1986" version because that's when it was first released, but I assume it was created in 1984.

Similar, but not identical, to the original (and more common) 6:57 version, and has identical structure as the 6:39 alt version 1, which itself has the same structure as the original except for two excised bits. From start through 1:50, this version is identical to the original; after that, it has different appearances of keyboards, snare, and echoes. Similarly to alt version 1, the snare fill at 1:50 is one bar instead of four, and the synth + bass guitar section at 3:32 (3:35 in the original) is 8 bars instead of 16. This version only appeared on the 2009 "corrected" reissue of PC&L Collector's Edition.

Carelessly made edit, with poor sound quality, which appeared on a various artists compilation with a silly name (containing, admittedly, many good bands). The first beat of this edit is missing, and the ending fades out about 45 seconds earlier than the original 12-inch. (I debated whether to include this version at all, since it's from the 90's, and it seems doubtful that the band or their label had anything to do with it. But, it exists, so I included it for completeness' sake.)

Complement to original that has same structure, but uses non-included sections from the two alt versions. Has a somewhat livelier, more layered sound than the original, with more percolating synth and drum echoes. Compared to original, swaps the sections from the two alt versions that were used, to instead start with alt version 1 until snare fill at 1:50, and from there use alt version 2 until end. It also has, unlike the alt versions, extra repetitions of the first snare fill and a mid-song section, like the original has, to keep a similar feel and length.
